Hotel Narsaq

Only stayed 2 nights in Narsaq. Probably the poorest accommodation I had in Greenland although it was acceptable. Stayed at extension facility rather than main hotel. Fairly basic with not even a mirror in my room. Not en suite. But food and drink in the nearby main hotel nearby were excellent. A German family were crammed all into one room.

When we arrived there was no record of our booking, and we were accommodated in a self-catering house for one night. The hotel later admitted that it was their mistake. When the rest of our party arrived next day, my friend and I were allocated a double bed instead of the twin-bedded room we had booked. We flatly refused this and eventually a satisfactory solution was found, with two of our party accommodated in another self-catering house. We never found out whose this mistake had been. The hotel room I stayed in was a bit tired but clean and comfortable and had most of the amenities I would expect, except that there was nowhere to hang a damp towel. There is no lounge or anywhere comfortable to sit, but that is not surprising as the building is quite small for a hotel. However it did limit the opportunities for socialising with the rest of our party. The restaurant menu was extremely restricted, and though we were told it would change, the only change was to substitute a cheeseburger for a cheese-and-bacon-burger. There were no fish dishes, which is surprising, no fresh vegetables, no starters and no desserts. Having said that, what was available was tasty and the portions were large, with mountains of chips with everything. Breakfast was good. On the Sunday most of us ate in the self-catering house, but one of our party who had gone out walking returned to the hotel in time for dinner only to discover that the restaurant and kitchen were closed and no food at all was available. What made the stay pleasant and comfortable, in spite of the limitations, was the staff, who were almost all super-helpful and made every effort to , including collecting the second party of our group from a long-delayed ferry in the middle of the night. I would be be very happy to stay here again, provided that I could be certain that I would get the type of room I have booked, and assuming that some other option for an evening meal is available for at least one or two evenings.

Before reading this review; be aware that I stayed at the hotel itself. They also rent out hotel apar**ents, which should be significantly better and newer. As the headline says; what they lack in interior, they make up for in service. Everything at Hotel Narsaq is outdated and slightly off. I stayed in 2 of their rooms. They both had nice beds and clean sheets etc. But everything else... The TV is the size of a laptop, the pictures were crooked, the curtain rod was too long, the soap dispenser was broken and empty, the tea and coffee was missing (we picked it up at the reception), there was a stain on the chair, the headboard was dusty, the carpet and interior gave off an 80's vibe, you cannot adjust the heat in the rooms, the breakfast was sp**** and cheap.. The list goes on. Nothing to complain about per say, but nothing was perfect. Nothing but their service! They were so nice and helpful. The manager let us buy a beer outside of opening hours. They got os hot chokolate, coffee and tea when we asked. They let us reschedule our second stay, because of bad weather - which was definitely not within our terms of booking. They helped us wash our clothes for free. They let us, and other guests, have a late checkout. They offered to check up on us, to see if we arrived after out hikingtrip. So nice to talk to, and they definitely remembered previous conversations. The service was outstanding. All in all; maybe try and book the new apar**ents, or keep your expectations low. I can recommend spending more nights at hotel qaqortoq if you like the luxury, or in igaliku or with the sheep farms if you like the calm charm.
