I'm not very picky when it comes to lodging, so people who are used to luxury and pampering may give a lower rating. The neighborhood wasn't horrible, but seemed a little sketchy. I noticed the smell of pot (could have been coming from the property next door) when I first got out of my car. The receptionist was somewhat sombre, but friendly. I was amused when she looked up my reservation and said, "OK, I have you for 1 clean room for one night." Yes, preferably a clean room.
I was traveling with a lot of gear that I didn't want to leave in my car, so I helped myself to one of the 4 luggage carts (no bellhop) that were situated just inside the main door. The elevator had a bit of an aroma - not horrible, just odd. When the elevator doors opened to my floor, another smell was introduced - it reminded me of a stagnant cinnamon air freshener.
The room itself was clean (true to the receptionist's statement), and a decent size. The beds had 2 pillows, both the same firmness, so hopefully you don't prefer a softer/firmer option.
My visit was during the winter, so it was nice to take advantage of the indoor pool/hot tub. If you indulge in the complimentary breakfast on the 5th floor, you pass an area that I could imagine used to host some semi-swanky events back in its heydays in the 70s, but now looks a little sad and run down. The breakfast was good - self service scrambled eggs & sausage, waffle maker, bagels, toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt & oatmeal were some options.
