Stayed here three times during an Intrepid tour of Ecuador Highlands and Galapagos Islands. The beginning, in the middle and at the end of the trip. It's a nice little cozy very safe feeling place. Front gate and door are always locked (there's a buzzer which rings their phone when you are there leaving very little time to be attacked on the street outside if you came by taxi. Although the reception staff gave me a map and told me not to go to nearby streets in one direction from the hotel or I would be attacked, I actually walked the streets of the neighbourhoods around the hotel on quite a few occasions and never once got killed. Or even hassled. It is also a short walk to the historic downtown area. You can safely walk there, at least in the day. It's a short taxi trip (which reception will ring for you) if you're concerned or want to go to further away places such as the equator. Reception will also speak Spanish for you to help solve an issue of any company you're dealing with, such as day trips whose buses don't turn up. Had the same room twice (room 9) and room 5 on the final night. They were both quiet and comfortable. There is a communal loungeroom (with toilet and shower in it, for if you're roommate has the key to your room), my only annoyance with this place is that they for some reason don't understand why strangers sharing an Intrepid room would each need their own key). Interior grassed umbrella and lounge/tables area is a nice place to mingle with other guests, as is a basic kitchen dining area. You get breakfast included, they even ask you how you like your eggs. The reception and housekeeping staff were always friendly and helpful.
