I had high hopes for Strawberry Hill Hotel in Jamaica, but my experience was deeply disappointing. Despite exchanging emails with Cherise to notify the team about our anniversary and our late checkout request due to a late-night flight, upon check-in, I had to re-explain everything, including our transportation needs. The views are phenomenal, and the colonial architecture is beautiful, but the lack of soundproofing and any kind of fan or air conditioning made our room feel stagnant and uncomfortable. The leaf blower started at 7 am, and loud music played until 2-3 am, making it impossible to rest. The food was a disaster. The menus were poorly presented on plastified sheets, and the dishes didn't live up to the hotel's reputation. The crab cakes were small and burnt, the linguine pasta was overcooked and bland, and the chicken skewers were unimpressive and slathered with a generic sauce. It felt like dining at an old, uninspired golf club rather than a renowned hotel. Additionally, the waitress couldn't care less about us, avoiding eye contact, taking her time, and neglecting to refill our water or bring more cutlery when needed. Lastly, despite previous arrangements, I received a call at 9 pm from guest services asking about our checkout time. After re-explaining our need for a late checkout, I was told it would cost $100 per extra hour, contradicting what was promised in our emails and when we checked in. To make matters worse, another employee, completely unaware of our previous communications, told us we needed to leave by 1 pm despite the hotel being empty with us as the only guests. This lack of coordination is astounding. I recommend visiting for a drink to enjoy the views, but avoid staying or dining here. The service and food fall far short of expectations. *you can’t stay as long as you like
