I arrived on the holiday weekend for a 7-night stay. I was upgraded to an "executive" room, which looked just like the one in which I stayed 8 months ago except for extra cans of drink in the fridge. The safe did not work - I requested a repair 3 times but it was never fixed. The bottle of hand soap was never refilled - the housekeeping left 2 bars of soap on the 5th day and 3 tubes of shampoo on the 6th day. I guess they did not know how to open the bottles - I tried but I couldn't, either. On Monday, I asked the young lady at the front desk if the restaurant was open for dinner. She said "Yes, but all the food is in the jar." After an exchange of Q&A's, she finally said the food was for the workers and not for the guests. At nearby Mercure, the restaurant was open as usual. Why could not Novotel do the same, especially on the holiday when many restaurants were closed?
